Awards

We give the following awards to honor the women who have been a part of our Ninety-Nines flying history, and to inspire us all to continue in the great tradition and spirit of this group.

Nominations are due by July 15 of each year to the respective chairs.

Aviation and Space Education Award

In keeping with the educational mission of The Ninety-Nines, this award is given to the chapter that has made the most contributions to Aerospace Education in a given year. The chapter chair or chapter aviation and space education chair will send the record of chapter activities to the Section Awards Chair, who makes the final selection for the award.

How To Apply:

Nominations are made by the chapter chair or chapter aviation and space education chair. Send nominations to the Section Awards Chair, Bonnie Molitor, who makes the final selection for the award.

Behind The Clouds Award

The success of our chapters depends upon the hardworking individuals who put in time and energy and are always there to help. This award honors those individuals. This award is to honor someone who has not had prior recognition for her efforts. It may be given to a chapter officer or general member. Nominations come from chapter chairs and are sent to the Section Awards Chair, who makes the final selection.

How To Apply:

Nominations come from chapter chairs and are sent to the Section Awards Chair, Bonnie Molitor. The Awards chair selects the winner.

Governor's Award

This award is given by the Northwest Section Governor to honor a 99 for her achievements in aviation. It is given each year to honor a member of the section who has demonstrated outstanding achievement in aviation. The Governor's Award has replaced the Achievement Award which was given out last in 2001. The Achievement Award Trophy is now retired and is in the Museum of Women Pilots in Oklahoma City. Recipients of that award are also listed here.

How To Apply:

Nominations come from chapter members or another Ninety-Nine who has personal knowledge of her achievements. Send to the Section Governor, who makes the final selection.

Hot Pavement Award

Airmarking has been an important and fun tradition of The Ninety-Nines. This award honors those chapters that have been active in airmarking. Submit all airmarking reports to the Awards Chair, who will select the recipient(s).

How To Apply:

Fill out the airmarking form after completing a project. See much more about airmarking and find the report form to file on this website under Activities. Submit the form, together with any photos, to the Section Awards Chair, Bonnie Molitor, who will select one or more recipients.

Special Projects Fund

The Special Projects Fund provides a way for the Northwest Section to support the chapters, through small grants or loans, for special projects or activities which further the mission of The Ninety-Nines and for which there is no other funding available.

How To Apply:

The requesting chapter(s) will apply to the chair of the Northwest Section Finance Committee at least 30 days in advance of the need for the funds. The Finance Committee may discuss the request by email, telecon or at a scheduled BOD meeting. The Finance Committee will vote to recommend or not recommend to the BOD of the Northwest Section. The BOD of the Northwest Section will make the final decision.

Spinning Prop Award

This award is to encourage us to get out in our planes and log some hours. It is given to the person who has logged the most time between our annual section meetings in a noncommercial status. Individuals receiving instruction training may count those hours toward the award. Hours flown will be verified by nominees submitting logbook entries to the Section Awards Chairman, NOTE: Logged time will be from July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024.


Members are encouraged to submit logged hours of 25 or more. The submission must include a photo copy of the first and last logged pages during the period with a list including each page total on the pages in between the first and last pages. The one with the most hours flown will receive the award, and all others will be recognized in hourly tiers of 25-49, 50-74 etc.

How To Apply:

Selectee will verify hours by submitting her logbook entries to the Section Awards Chair, Bonnie Molitor. NOTE: Logged time will be from July 1 to June 30 of the following year.

Website Award

This award, now discontinued, was intended to encourage chapters in their use of the Internet. Chapter websites were reviewed for their currency, interest, graphic design and information.
